Livestream! Journalism and Democracy in the Digital Age: A Youth Lead Community Conversation with Wesley Lowery

  • Gleacher Center 450 North Cityfront Plaza Drive Chicago, IL, 60611 United States (map)

Presented by Facing History and Ourselves and The Allstate Foundation in partnership with The News Literacy Project.

Join us for a Youth Lead Community Conversation with journalist Wesley Lowery, Dr. Christopher Benson and Facing History students to explore the changing role of journalism in a democratic, digital society. Lowery covers law enforcement, race and politics for The Washington Post. In 2014 he was one of the first reporters on the ground in the aftermath of the death of Michael Brown and arrested while covering the story. He is featured in the Facing History resource, "Facing Ferguson: News Literacy in a Digital Age" which deeply explores the role of journalism in a democratic society. The resource was created in partnership with The News Literacy Project. Christopher Benson is an associate professor of Journalism and African American Studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His areas of scholarship include hate crimes, race and media, journalism, and narrative writing.

As part of our national series of Youth Lead Community Conversations, this event is free and open to the public. An RSVP is required:http://bit.ly/2kJUq86
