Chicago Muslim community media activists come together for a panel presentation and discussion on the media and Islam in the time of Trump and how to challenge “fake news” and “alternative facts.”

Aymen Abdel Halim, Director, Muslim Media Collective: As a media researcher and educator, Aymen Abdel Halim will discuss why media literacy is critical to navigating an increasingly ubiquitous and evolving media landscape.

Bill Chambers, Editor-in-Chief, Chicago Monitor: By providing in-depth analysis of mainstream news, uncovering under-reported and unreported stories, and challenging “alternative facts,” Bill Chambers discusses how to fill the media gap.

Tahera Rahman, News Producer, Local 4 News WHBF TV: With news reporting experience inside and outside of the Muslim community, Tahera Rahman offers unique insight and perspective on US news reporting on Islam and Muslims.

Tauseef Akbar, Research Coordinator, CAIR-Chicago: As a researcher on Islamophobia, Tauseef Akbar has studied the Islamophobia industry and network and will discuss its influence and impact on media, government, and public life.
