Lemonade March

  • 280 West Kinzie Street Chicago, IL, 60654 United States (map)

Black Women Speak is an IL NFP civic education organization. Our mission is to provide non-partisan platforms to discuss issues that educate and mobilize our vote in Chicago and abroad. And when relevant, we leverage legislation via our sister NFP, Black Women Speak-IL.

"I was served lemons but I made lemonade."

In the spirit of Beyonce and Lemonade, join Black Women Speak's inaugural#LemonadeMarch in solidarity with the International Women's Strike Chicago: Global Wage rally at the Kluczynski Federal Building (230 S Dearborn St, Chicago, Illinois 60603). The purpose of the rally is to support pay equity and better working conditions for women and workers around the world. Then on Wed, March 8th all women are encouraged to strike -#ADayWithoutWomen

On Tue, March 7th express your solidarity with us.

1) Wear Yellow Together

Wear yellow all day. Make it visible, from a cute broach to a great t-shirt or, if you have one, your Roberto Cavali yellow Goddess dress! Tie yellow ribbons, barrets, etc. in your daughter's hair!

2) Let's March & Rally Together

Meet us promptly at 3:00 pm in front of the Local 1600 CCCTU union office at 208 West Kinzie Street (Chicago, IL 60658). Wear comfortable shoes. From there, we will walk over to the Kluczynski Federal Building. Feel free to bring a protest sign, visible on yellow poster board of course. See comment thread for protest sign ideas.

3) Let's Drink Lemonade & Write Together

Join us for a lemonade toast and debrief afterwards at Blue 1647 (1647 Blue Island Avenue, 6:00 - 8:00 pm). Learn how to access CongressTracker.govand other legislative databases. Write to our elected officials --we will provide the postcards and postage.

Together, we can make a huge difference!
