Jane Chicago Women's Abortion Service- A film screening and Q&A

  • 2200 North California Avenue Chicago, IL, 60647 United States

Hey FB fam! Come and see this film we (Johanna Vargas and I) are hosting at township on March 8th, called "Jane Chicago Women's Abortion Service" there will be a panel of speakers to follow: Yamani Hernandez-The Executive Director of the National Network of Abortion Funds, Brittney Mostiller representative of the Local Chicago Abortion Funds, Suzanne Davenport of the Chicago Woman's Liberation Union ( https://www.cwluherstory.org/ ) and local midwife speaker Sarah Simmons (who still deals with reproductive rights issues on a daily basis).

"Jane" was an underground group of women providing safe sliding scale abortions to thousands no matter the circumstances in the 60s-70s. This was at a time when abortion was illegal and high risk dangerous abortions in inhuman situations, were more of a norm. You could even be turned away from hospitals if they suspected you of attempting abortion and as a result you were seriously hurt or bleeding out.

Our current administration threatens to push us back to these very dangerous times. So come learn of what can happen when a community stands together to support each other against the odds. Whatever we lose we cannot lose our community or our voice. We may lose our rights but we will always have each other and the wisdom of those who came before us. This is a call to all of the community who feels strongly about reproductive rights individuals of every race and gender expression we all need each other to stand together as a force

Admission is free and Township has graciously opened their space to us with support to the movement so please plan to buy a drink and or some food (if you can but still join us if you can't) to thank and support them (plus a dinner and movie is pretty darn great together). We will also have jars out to donate to the Chicago Abortion Fund www.abortionfunds.org and the Chicago Women's Health Center (http://www.chicagowomenshealthcenter.org/about/history ) and family planning associates (http://fpachicago.com/...)

All movements towards the goal of resisting are still movements lets keep moving .
