Women's Day Film Screening: Hosted by Women's March Rockford

  • The Center for Arts and Spirituality 920 3rd Avenue Rockford, Illinois 61104 (map)

In support of women everywhere, those striking or not, please join us for a screening of the film Miss Representation! We will also have ALL remaining march T-Shirts available for pickup!

Written and directed by Jennifer Siebel Newsom, Miss Representation exposes how mainstream media contribute to the under-representation of women in positions of power and influence in America.

“I made Miss Representation because we live in a society where media is the most persuasive force shaping cultural norms, and the collective message the media send to our young women and men is that a woman’s value lies in her youth, beauty, and sexuality, and not in her capacity as a leader,” Newsom said. “I wanted to shed a light on this problem, because if we don’t question that thinking and work to change it, we are going to continue to be marginalized.”

Come out and get to know each other in a relaxed environment. Talk about what you did to celebrate International Women's Day, and what you plan to do going forward.

Suggested $10 donation to help cover licensing fees. Lucette Salon and Ground Floor Skateboards teamed up to sponsor this event and will provide comfy cushions, chairs and movie refreshments! You are welcome to bring other snacks and or blankets if you like. Make yourself at home!

We want to sincerely thank The Center for the Arts and Spirituality for allowing us to use their space at Emmanual Lutheran Church so we can host a larger group!
