Activism Series: Love & Protect / Assata's Daughters: Hosted by Women & Children First Bookstore

  • Women & Children First Bookstore 5233 North Clark Street Chicago, IL, 60640 United States

For each meeting of our ACTIVISM Series, we showcase specific local social justice organizations. Representatives from the organizations give a presentation detailing their mission, followed by a Q&A, and an action plan of how attendees can get involved. For our April installment, Tasasha Henderson will present Love & Protect and Hannah Baptiste will talk about Assata's Daughters.

Love & Protect supports those who identify as women and gender non-conforming persons of color who are criminalized or harmed by state and interpersonal violence. MISSION STATEMENT: Through love, we work towards healing and transformation with these individuals and their families. Through resistance, we seek to protect their right to defend themselves. Through love, through resistance, we protect! For this event, Love & Protect will discuss: the history of Love & Protect, events that they have done, facts about criminalization of domestic survivors, and why defense committees are important.

Assata's Daughters is a grassroots intergenerational collective of radical Black women located in the city of Chicago. They identify their work as part of the larger Black Lives Matter movement. Their programs aim to escalate, deepen, and sustain this movement for collective liberation.

This event is free and open to everyone.
